Biographical information

The publisher and editor of the site is Robert Thomason, a journalist formerly with the Washington Post. While at the Post, Thomason was the principal researcher for foreign news. He also wrote on many topics for the Post, such as the Web, business, religion, recessions, technology and energy management. He works to build on this broad background by approaching environmental and natural resources reporting in a multi-disicplinary and silo-busting fashion.

Thomason visited and wrote about the troubles in the Balkans, and has traveled in Central America, Mexico and Africa writing about economics and politics. He contributes to the National Geographic magazine. He has analyzed international trade flows of animals for an investigation of trafficking in threatened species, and for another article the science of extreme weather.

Thomason's journalism continues to draw upon his roots in community newspapers. His main coursework in college, both for his degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and later, was in journalism and economics.
